Meet the Directors and Marching Band Staff

Jason Schayot (Shy-oh)
Fine Arts Coordinator and Director of Bands
Jason Schayot is the Fine Arts Coordinator and Director of Bands at Pearce High School. He is currently in his 29th year of public school education. Before coming to Pearce, Mr. Schayot served as the Fine Arts Coordinator and Director of Bands at Berkner High School in Richardson ISD, where he taught for 13 years. Under his baton, the Berkner Symphonic Band I performed in Chicago at The Midwest Clinic in 2019, as did the Symphony Orchestra in 2016. During his tenure at Berkner, the Mighty Ram Marching Band advanced to the Texas UIL State Open Class Marching Band Contest in 2023 and 2016. Mr. Schayot has been honored as a Richardson ISD STARS Teacher of the Year in 2016, and was recognized by the Grammy Foundation as a national semifinalist for the 2022 Grammy Music Educator Award. He has also previously taught in Giddings and Georgetown, Texas at both the middle school and high school levels. Mr. Schayot holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Southwestern University where he was recently named the 2021 Distinguished Alumni Professional. He is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas Bandmasters Association, Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society, Texas Music Adjudicators Association and Phi Beta Mu - Alpha Chapter.

Brandon Day
Assistant Band Director

Brandon Day is an assistant band director at Pearce High School whose teaching responsibilities include conducting the Wind Symphony, teaching two beginner brass classes at two feeder elementaries, and assisting with the marching band, jazz band and full orchestra. ​​Before coming to Pearce, Mr. Day has spent the past six years as the Director of Bands at Burleson High School in Burleson, TX. During his time there, he led the marching band to make UIL Area Marching Finals for the first time, as well as helped all concert bands earn superior ratings for the first time. Under his direction, the Burleson Wind Ensemble and chamber groups have performed at several major events, including the 2023 TMEA Convention, the 2023 Music for All National Concert Band Festival, and the 2024 Western International Band Clinic in Seattle. They also won a National Mark of Excellence Award from the Foundation for Music Education. The marching band was a finalist at many contests, as well as 2nd in Class AA at the 2022 Bands of America Super Regional in San Antonio. Prior to Burleson, Mr. Day taught for five years at Azle ISD, working with both junior high and high school students. He earned consistent superior ratings with non-varsity and sub-non varsity bands. In 2018, he started the Azle Indoor Winds program, which won WGI Scholastic Open Gold Medal, scoring a perfect 100 in multiple visual captions. They also became finalists in the World Class Division in 2019. The marching band was consistent UIL Area Finalists during his tenure. A native of Keller, TX, Mr. Day graduated from Keller Central High School in 2008. He studied horn at the University of North Texas, performing in several ensembles, including multiple concert bands, the men’s chorus, the “Funky Fresh” basketball band, and the UNT Green Brigade. While in college, he also worked as a marching band tech at Azle and Keller High Schools. Mr. Day is a strong supporter of Drum Corps International (DCI). He performed with the 2007 Division 3 Champion Memphis Sound. He also worked with the brass staff of the Troopers and Crossmen, both DCI World Class Finalists. In 2016, he was the brass caption head for the Guardians during their first national tour. Mr. Day is an active clinician and adjudicator in the DFW area and is a member of TMEA, TBA, and TMAA. Brandon and his wife Brittany are excited to move to the Dallas area with their two children, Norah and Parker, who will attend elementary school and Pre-K next fall. They also have a third “child”, Walter, their very grumpy pug. Mr. Day also loves running! This summer, he will be completing his second marathon in 2025, running Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth, Minnesota.

Katie Harrison
Assistant Band Director

Katie Harrison is a recent graduate from Sam Houston State University where she earned her Bachelor of Music Education degree with certification in EC-12 instrumental music. She studied under Dr. Henry Howey on euphonium.  At Sam Houston State University, Mrs. Harrison was a member of the Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Matthew McInturf, Bearkat Marching Band, SHSU Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble, and the SHSU Tuba Quartet. She has performed at the American Bandmasters Association Convention and has participated in intercollegiate bands such as the College Band Directors National Association band and the Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma National Intercollegiate band.  Mrs. Harrison has served in numerous leadership positions while at Sam Houston State University. These include the Wind Ensemble Librarian, Bearkat Marching Band Student Assistant of two years, and as the Tau Beta Sigma Vice President, Recording Secretary, and Service Coordinator. Mrs. Harrison’s professional affiliations include Texas Music Educators Association and Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority. Katie is originally from McKinney, Texas and now lives in Garland, Texas with her husband, Alex. He is a middle school band director in Garland ISD.

Eric Boatman
Assistant Band Director

Eric Boatman is entering his second year as an Assistant Band Director at JJ Pearce High School. He currently conducts the Concert Band, teaches Beginning Band at two of our feeder elementary schools, and assists with the marching band. Prior to Pearce High School, Mr. Boatman went to Texas Tech University where he received his Bachelor of Music in Education and Performance. While there, Mr. Boatman studied clarinet with Dr. David Shea and participated in the Symphonic Wind Ensemble under Dr. Sarah McKoin, the Goin’ Band from Raiderland, and the Clarinet Choir. Mr. Boatman served as a visual team instructor and head drum major for the Goin’ Band from Raiderland, was Vice President and later President of the Alpha Omicron Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi and was a student conductor for the Undergraduate Conducting Project. Outside of school, Mr. Boatman has performed in the Kappa Kappa Psi & Tau Beta Sigma National Intercollegiate Band and recently performed at the 2025 International Clarinet Association Convention. Mr. Boatman’s professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association, Kappa Kappa Psi, Young Band Directors of Texas, and the International Clarinet Association.

Cameron Zawadzki
Director of Percussion Studies

Cameron Zawadzki is a recent graduate from Texas A&M in Commerce where he earned his Bachelor of Music Performance. At TAMUC he studied under Dr. Brian Zator, Sandi Rennick, Kent Hillman, and Cory Doran. During his time at the university he was able to perform with the Pride Marching Band, Percussion Ensembles, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, and Panamation Steel Drum Ensemble. Mr. Zawadzki participated in numerous extra curriculars and competitions throughout his time at Texas A&M in Commerce. In 2017, he placed first in the P.A.S.I.C. Collegiate marimba competition. In 2018, he marched with the Santa Clara Vanguard and won the DCI World Championship as well as the Fred Sanford high percussion award. In 2019, he won the TAMUC Concerto Competition and got to play Gillingham’s Concerto No.2 for Marimba and Wind Ensemble with the TAMUC Wind Ensemble.

Amanda Harrison
Color Guard Director

Amanda Harrison resides with her husband, and son Ridley in Garland, Tx.  Her color guard journey started at Flower Mound High School. During her junior year of high school in 2008, she marched with The Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corp, and was the youngest member of the corp. Regiment went on to win the DCI World Class Championships that year. The following year she went on to march with Crossmen in and then ending her DCI career with The Santa Clara Vanguard from 2010-2012. After high school and finishing her DCI career she began teaching color guard around the DFW area. She was the Assistant Director at Highland Park High School and helped lead them to placing second place in 5A UIL Final State Competition and NTCA grand champions. She has been calling JJ Pearce home for the past 6 years, creating a powerhouse colorguard program in the circuit.
